Itinerary
The Pu Luong Nature Reserve is located in area of outstanding beauty, culture & customs interest and high biodiversity value stretching from Mai Chau valley in the North to West to Cuc Phuong national park in the South East. It is blessed with rich forest, limestone panoramas, magnificent rice paddies and breathtaking scenery. Experience the everyday life and culture of Thai and Muong ethnic minority people and stay in scenic hill tribe villages and in traditional homestay accommodation.
Pu Luong Nature Reserve offers opportunities for easy to moderate and hard trekking, ranging from one to several days visits. Green Discovery Indochina offers you the chance to explore the bat cave at Kho Muong, kayaking and raft on Ma river, journey to pleasant Thai villages or camp on the Pu luong mountain for stunning panorama.
DETAIL ITINERARY
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau ( L, D )
7:15 a.m Meet our Green Discovery Indochina’s tour guide and driver, then be transferred to Mai Chau. Drive to Hoa Binh (about 2 hours). Short break at Thung Khe pass 30 minutes.
Leave Thung Khe pass to Mai Chau with few stops on the way for taking pictures and enjoys stunning view. Oour lunch will be served in Mai Chau.
After lunch, take rest for one hour and check-in home-stay before exploring around Mai Chau valley. Having dinner at a stilt house of Poom Coong – Thai minority village.
Overnight in the village. Clean and comfortable matress, blanket and pillow are rovided.
Day 2 : Trek Mai Chau onto Pu Luong Nature Reserve. (B, L, D )
Leaving the Poom Coom village, drive forward Pu Luong Nature Reserve and explore along the Black river on the Road 15c. Trek to Duom and Hang village for approximately 2.5 hrs through spectacular mountain scenery, rice terraces, water wheels, enjoy chatting with lovely local people. Arrive our homestay in Hang village in the afternoon. Check in our home-stay and strolls around Hang village. Overnight in Hang village and enjoy dinner with Thai family in Hang village.
Day 3 : Hike to Eo Ken & Kho Muong villages (Continue hiking Pu Luong nature reserve) (B, L, D )
Get up early, enjoy our breakfast and say goodbye to our owner house. Get ready for our full day trekking. Today we will hike for about an hour 6-7 on a dirt road. The first challenging hike with some steep climbs and stream crossings further, the next is really beautiful with beautiful views of the valley, rice terraces, rich rainforest. Picnic lunch on the way at Eo Ken village. On arrival at Kho Muong village on the afternoon, this village is perhaps the most beautiful in Vietnam nestled between steep karst mountains and terraces. Spend our second night in a house on stilts in typical Thai village of Kho Muong
Day 4 : Trek to Nua and Hin villages (Continue trekking Pu Luong national park) (B, L, D )
After breakfast, says good bye to our owner of homestay and continue trekking through the valley on unpaved road. There are some steep climbs and yet more stream crossings. Trek to an incredible cave in Kho Muong, only recently discovered and now protected by the Forest rangers. The trekking becomes more remote yet one is never far from a villager tending fields, passing steep limestone mountain, rain forest inside Pu Luong Nature Reserve to Nua village. Lunch will be provided en route. Relax from the heat of the day before continuing on to Hin – the village of Thai people in the afternoon. Have dinner and spend one more night at a local home.
Day 5 : Hin village to Son village (B, L, D )
Leaves Hin village, we will trek uphill. You will get in deeper inside Pu luong Nature Reserve with wild and rich tropical forest. Picnic lunch will be served en route. After lunch, we will continue trekking through Ba beautiful village to Son village. Take a break and stretch your legs on the house on stilt of Thai people or strolling round this village and to be in contact with hospitable friendly local people here. Dinner and overnight in Pu Luong Retreat.
Day 6 : Trek to Pho Doan Market – Ninh Binh – Cuc Phuong National Park (B, L)
Today you will have a nice and easier trek, just a bit up and down through rice paddies, jungle fever. After 2.5 hours we get to PhoDoan Market. Car Pick up and transfer to Cuc Phuong National Park. Upon arrival, we will explore the Botanic Garden and the Endangered Primate Rescue Center, followed by a seminar on primate rescue, explore Cave of Prehistoric Man and surrounding. Stay overnight in Cuc Phuong.
Day 7 : Cuc Phuong National Park – Hoa Lu Ancient Capital – Hanoi(B, L)
After breakfast, head to the historic capital of Vietnam and the famous ancient temples of The Le and The Dinh Dynasties.
Enjoy our cycling for an hour on picturesque quiet roads through villages, rice fields, rivers and rocky outcrops to Tam Coc (12km) for lunch. After lunch, we will take a sampan boat journey (1 hour) in the heart of “Inland Ha Long Bay”. Take in the beauty of the karsts formations as you pass along their base and row into one of the many caves carved through the limestone. Stop for a short rest near a small shrine before returning to the dock (1 hour). Totally, you have 2 hours on the sampan boat. After boat trip, we will drive back to Hanoi. The trip ends.

- Excess Baggage Charges. Passengers holding an adult fare or half fare ticket are entitled to a free baggage allowance of 20kg, for economy class. Total weight of carryon baggage each passenger may not exceed 5kg. The size may not exceed 20x40x 55cm.
